The African Union Force in Somalia on Friday boosted its personnel presence in central Somali region of Beledweyne after deploying 65 more soldiers from AMISOM’s Djiboutian contingent.

A plane carrying the new deployment landed at the area local airports earlier in the day. These troops will join other Djiboutian troops in the region.

Speaking to Sunatimes, Gen. Osman Subagle who heads the AU force in Beledweyne said the deployment is meant to strengthen their peacekeeping force in the area.

He said Djibouti will finalise deploying the required troops into Somalia in the next ten days, adding that their troops will closely work hand in hand with the Somali forces and their allied Ethiopian troops in the region.

The first patch of AU’s Djiboutian contingent arrived at Beledweyne early last June with the aim of restoring law and order in the chaotic Horn of African country.

Their arrival comes a time the regional administration is promising to secure the region using government and AU forces in the region.
