Two rival clans who fought last month over land ownership in southwest Somali region of Bay have now resolved their difference, according to elders in Baidoa city.

Bashir Gobe, a traditional elder who negotiated the peace deal between the two rival clans told Bar-kulan that the two agreed to live together peacefully in the area.

He said elders from these clans signed a peace deal brokered by local elders in the region and each clan is expected to make blood compensation to the other in order to permanently end the dispute.

They also resolved that whoever kills somebody from the rival clan as revenge should also be killed to discourage revenge attacks that could further escalate the violence.

More than ten people including women and children were killed in a land dispute between the two clans late last month and the peace deal is intended to resolve their difference to avoid similar skirmishes in the region.
