Somalia’s newly elected president has announced that he will not attend the upcoming UN meeting in New York due to what he called “tough tasks in his in-tray”.

The meeting is scheduled to kick off next Monday (24 Sept. 2012) in New York, U.S.

President Mohamud made the announcement on Tuesday night at his Villa Somalia residence in Mogadishu while meeting the newly selected parliament and some of the presidential aspirants who were in the race with him during the just concluded presidential election.

He said due to a bulk of tasks waiting him to tackle, he opted to abscond the world-body meeting, adding that he will also be missing another meeting on Somalia in the same U.S city scheduled for September 26.

The president did not say whether somebody else will be representing Somalia in those upcoming meetings or not.

Meanwhile, President Mohamud broke his silence on who should be appointed as the new premier, assuring the public that he will soon appoint a vibrant PM, adding that he is now making consultations in order not to disappoint the nation.
