The election commission says only 8 presidential candidates have fulfilled presidential requirements out of the 31 candidates who have taken election forms.
The requirements were set to block incompetent aspirants to reach the ballot box.
The eight successful candidates who fulfilled requirements and submitted their election application forms to the election commission are:-
- Abdirahman Badiyow
- Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gas
- Abdiweli Elmi Omar (Gonjeh)
- Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo
- Abdulahi Ahmed Adow
- Sharif Sheikh Ahmed
- Prof. Ahmed Ismail Samatar
- Hasan Sheikh Mohamud
Spokesman of the election commission, Osman Libah said he is expecting many more candidates to submit the forms to beat today’s deadline.
The spokesman said he was hoping elections to be held on 10thSeptember as initially scheduled without any postponements and delay.
