A suspected militant man died last night when an explosive device he was allegedly planting near Yaqshid police station went off, killing him on the spot.

Confirming the incident, the area district commissioner Muhyadin Hassan Jurus told Sunatimes that the incident occurred at around 3:00 am local time this morning.

He said a suspected militant man was burying explosive device just some sixty meters from the area police station, but the device exploded and killed him on the spot.

Police say the device was a remotely detonated bomb. The explosion also damaged houses near the scene of the incident. Jurus claimed locals welcomed the incident as it will be a lesson for other militants trying to commit crimes.

Police have reportedly started investigations into the incident.

The incident comes just two months after three suspected militants were killed in a similar incident in two separate incidents.

In the first incident, a suspected militant man was killed when a remotely detonated bomb that he was reportedly planting in an area between Bar-Ubah junction and Black Sea went off.

In the second incident, two people including a woman were killed in El-Abdi Dere area of El-bur district after an explosive device they were planting went off, killing them on the spot.

The two were allegedly plotting an attack against Ahlu Sunna militias and their allied Ethiopian troops in the area.

Ahlu Sunna claimed that their investigations revealed that the female militant was a graduate from a University in Uganda and recently joined the militant group.
