It is the first visit of President Ahmed to Lower Shabelle region since he became the president of the war-ravaged nation of Somalia some four years ago.

The president arrived in the town from Mogadishu via the main road that connects Afgoye to the capital, Mogadishu, and has talked to the people in Elasha Biyaha urging them to reopen their businesses.

He also appealed to the people of Elasha Biyaha to cooperate with the government and AMISOM security officials.

He displayed a map showing the territories that have fallen into the government and AMISOM hands in the past few weeks during a brief meeting with AMISOM and Somali forces in Alamadda Park.

Afgoye and Elasha Biyaha have fallen into the hands of the TFG and AMISOM forces last week.
