Government and AMISOM troops are now stationed in Carbiska area which is 9 kilometers away from the Afgoye district of Lower Shabelle.

There are reports suggesting that al-Shabaab fighters are taking steps to shut down Andulus Radio, a pro al-Shabaab FM in Elasha Biyaha and are relocating its equipments to an unconfirmed location.

Other sources indicate that al-Shabaab leaders in the area have been fleeing amid the advancement of TFG and AMISOM forces to the area.

Witnesses in Elasha Biyaha have said that 7 armed vehicles leaving the town and heading to Bariirey, Awdhegle and Mareeyey 30 kilometers away from Afgoye corridor were seen on Wednesday.

Some sources suggest that a number of militia fighters could still be seen around the Afgoye police station and Mukeyga Afgoye.

AU deputy special representative to Somalia Wafula Wamunyinyi said in a press conference on Tuesday that the operations in Afgoye were meant to open the Afgoye corridor in order to assist and give security to displaced families in Elasha Biyaha.

Wafula believes that taking control of the corridor will be a vital step in pushing al-Shabaab from the capital and in Lower Shabelle and making progress towards stabilizing the country.

Meanwhile, Ndayiragije Come, an AMISOM official said they have captured two anti-aircraft guns hooked on vehicles and destroyed another one yesterday from the militant group on Tuesday’s clashes, he added that 40 bloated dead bodies were seen lying under trees.

However, the exact casualties on Tuesday’s clashes in Daynile airstrip are yet unknown.
