    Free eye surgery for Habasweyn residents

    More than 240 patients suffering from minor eye problems were yesterday received free cataract Eye surgery and treatments in parts of predominantly Somali inhabited northeastern Kenya.

More than 240 patients suffering from minor eye problems were yesterday received free cataract Eye surgery and treatments in parts of predominantly Somali inhabited northeastern Kenya.

The exercised was jointly offered by a local aid agency, Warda and Muslim Aid Australia.

The exercise which kicked off at Habasweyn District Hospital has attracted hundreds of persons with eyesight problem form various part of the region.

This is said to be the first campaign of its kind to be undertaken in Habasweyn town for many years.

Warda managing director Dr. Mohamed Mohammoud Omar told Sunatimes that six patients have so far undergone eye surgery including 117 year old man during the first few hours of Sunday while more than 25 others were in their operating suite awaiting surgery.

He stated that patients who registered for the exercise so far are from various districts of the region, adding that his organisation has donated equipments to the area district hospital.

The patients who want to benefit from the exercise also hope that they will soon have their sight problems rectified and thanked for the two organisations that offered them these free services.
