The explosives were uncovered after some local residents in Hagardera refugee camp informed the police of the two bombs planted inside a food store in the camp, according sources who spoke to Sunatimes.

Reports say police immediately cordoned off the area and later managed to detonate one of the bombs, adding officers are still combing the food store and its surroundings in order to remove the remaining device.

Police have not yet released any comment regarding the incident at Hagardera refugee camp.

The incident comes just a month after police arrested a gunman and recovered drugs and masks following a shootout with armed bandits outside Camp Aws refugee camp.

During the April 9 incident police acting on tip-off from the locals raided the gangs and after a brief gun-battle one of the gangs was arrested while the other four gangs managed to escape on foot.

Police recovered masks, rolls of Bangh and alcoholic drinks left by the gangs at the site of the incident.

The gangs were allegedly using the masks to disguise their identity when committing criminal activities in the camp and its environs, according to the area police boss Goerge King.

Dadaab is home to thousands of Somali refugees who fled their country to escape two decades old conflict and the just ended famine related crisis in the country.

The area has also seen a wave of grenade attacks targeting Kenya security officials since Kenyan troops crossed the border into Somalia in pursuit of Al-Shabaab militant group which it has accused of masterminding several incidents of abductions of foreign nationals including tourists and aid workers, a charge the group denied.
