A third presidential aspirant for Galmudug regional state has joined the growing list of candidates eying for the regional top seat ahead of the forthcoming August election in the region.

Abdirisack Hussein Gedi, who jetted in Galkayo Monday, is said to be one of the elites from Galmudug region in abroad. He is eying to win the regional top seat to replace Mr. Alin whose term expires next August.

On his arrival at Galkayo airport, Gedi was warmly received by his local supporters wearing T-shirt bearing his portraits.

Addressing a crowd of supporters, Mr. Gedi said the region needs a trustworthy leader and intellectual who can positively change the face of the region.

Just recently the former TFG minister for Minerals and Water resources, Abdi Hassan Awale Qeybdid declared his interest in Galmudug’s top seat.

Qeybdid who is also a former Somali government police commander declared his interest in the region’s presidency after meeting civil society representatives in southern Galkayo town.

Speaking to Sunatimes immediately after the meeting, Qeybdid said he will do a lot for the region if he is elected to the post, promising to tackle insecurity and expand his administration to all parts of Mudug region.

He also promised to foster relations with the neighbouring Puntland administration in order strengthen security in the region.

Gedi now becomes the third candidate to formally declare his candidature in the run up to the forthcoming August election in Galmudug. Ahlu Sunna group has also filled its candidate.

Although several candidates have joined the race for the regional top seat, whoever is elected faces challenges that the sitting president Mr. Alin and his predecessor could not accomplish.
