Two people were killed on Monday afternoon following a heavy downpour in Aborey village, some 30 kilometres northeast of Bula-burte district, reports say.

Local villagers told Sunatimes that the victims, both elderly persons, died in the village under difference circumstances. One of the victims died when his house collapsed due to heavy rains while the other one, a disabled person, was swept away by flash floods resulting from the downpours.

Reports say the downpour which lasted for several houses also destroyed three houses in the same village.

Their death brings the number of persons killed in the country to four since last week. Two people were killed last Thursday following heavy downpours in parts of the riverine region of Lower Shabelle.

A powerful lightning struck Dahabo Saudi village, some eight kilometers from Kuntuwarey town killing one person.

Another one died in Bula Marer due to the extremely cold weather that followed the downpour that lasted for more than 12 hours.

The much awaited Gu’ rains have already been received in some parts of the country with reports of destruction of property and loss of lives.
