The mortars struck the area after government troops engaged in a brief gun-battle with Al-Shabaab militant fighters last night.

In the first incident involving one family, two people were killed and five others were injured when a mortar slammed into their house.

In the second incident, two children were killed and another one injured when a mortar struck at their house in the same district.

Meanwhile, two people were injured on Saturday night in an explosion at Kasa Bal-Balare neighbourhood of Hodan district.

It is not yet known the nature of the explosion and who the targets were.
