The gangs armed with AK 47 riffles attacked the victim while sitting at a tea kiosk and shot him dead on the spot, according to eyewitnesses. The assailants immediately fled the scene of the incident.
The incident is said to be a clan based revenge attack.
Galmudug police officers who arrived at the scene of the incident conducted search operations in the area. But no arrests were so far made.
The area police boss, Mohamed Noor Ali, told Sunatimes that efforts are now underway to bring together two rival clans who were recently in loggerheads in northeast part of the region. Clan affiliated revenge attacks have been rampant in the region for the past few weeks.
Galkayo is divided into two parts, with the north coming under the jurisdiction of Puntland while south comes under Galmudug.
The two breakaway regions of Somalia have been pointing fingers at each other over insecurity in the region.
