Yamen (Sunatimes)A total of 10 bodies of illegal Somali immigrants were found in parts of troubled Ebyan province of Yemen, where government forces are battling Al-Qaeda militants, reports say.

There are also reports of number of injured Somalis found in the region.

Reports say another ten Somalis are being held by tribal militias in the region for allegedly aiding Al-Qaeda militants in the Arab peninsular.

Abdirahman Bana, a Somali lawyer in Aden told Sunatimes that he himself met a group of Somalis who survived from the renewed clashes in this region.

Somali refugees in the country refuted claims that Somali youths are fighting alongside Al-Qaeda fighters in the country, saying that Somalis sought refuge in Yemen after fleeing their troubled home country and could not be linked to the current trouble in Yemen.

Suspicions that Somalis were fighting alongside Al-Qaeda reached its climax when Somalia-based Al-Shabaab militant group announced last February that it was merging with the Al-Qaeda global network.

Just last week, Yemeni police arrested over sixty immigrants, mainly Somalis, on suspicions that they were Al-Shabaab militants trying to join Al-Qaeda network in the country.

Earlier, Somali consul in Aden, Hussein Hajji Ahmed was quoted as saying that insecurity in parts of Yemen could be blamed for the increased number of Somali immigrants crossing to Yemen.

He said once the immigrants arrive in Yemen they become soft targets of armed locals who are opposed to the area government.

The Yemeni government suspects Al-Shabaab elements may find their way into its territory in the pretext of being genuine immigrants fleeing the two decades old conflict in their chaotic Horn of African country.
