Conforming the incident, the area police boss Goerge King told Sunatimes that police managed to arrest the gunman after engaging in a brief gun-battle with a group of five gangs on the outskirt of the newly opened Camp Aws refugee camp where hundreds of Somalis who fled the recent human tragedy in their country are pitching tents.
He said police acting on tip off from the locals raided the gangs and after a brief gun-battle one of the gangs was arrested while the other four gangs managed to escape on foot, adding that no one was injured during the shootout.
He added that the gunman is now being held in police custody at Dadaab police station.
King further said police recovered masks, Bangh and alcoholic drinks left by the gangs at the site of the incident.
The gangs were allegedly using the masks to disguise their identity when committing criminal activities in the camp and its environs, adds king.
The incidents come a day after armed bandits injured and robbed a teenage boy in Hagardera refugee camp.
