The fighting at Jungal settlement, few kilometres from the rebel held Bardera town occurred when the allied troops launched attacks on the settlement, according to a Somali politician accompanying the allied forces.
Mohamed Sayyid Aden, a member of the Somali parliament who is leading government’s push against Al-Shabaab in the region told Sunatimes that they inflicted heavy casualties on the militant fighters.
He said the allied forces are now advancing towards the Al-Shabaab held town in order to oust the three year old rebel rule in the area.
Al-Shabaab has not yet released any comment regarding the fight.
