    Turkey will open a regional development office in Puntland to oversee its developmental activities in the region, officials said.

Turkey will open a regional development office in Puntland to oversee its developmental activities in the region, officials said.
Turkish ambassador to Somalia Kani Torun who visited Garowe today said his country will have its regional development office opened in Garowe through which all Turkish government activities in the region will be overseen.

Torun said Turkish developmental projects will not be passing through international agencies and instead the office will directly deal with locals in Puntland.

He said the office will help locals in the region in providing essential services like clean water, schools and hospitals.


During his stay in Garowe, Torun held talks with the area regional president Abdirahman Mohamed Farole and discussed ranged of issues including Turkish developmental projects in the region.

On his part, Farole praised the Turkish government for supporting Somalia during and after the recently witnessed human tragedy in the country.

Torun’s trip to Garowe is said to be his first trip to Puntland since he was appointed as the Turkish ambassador to Somalia mid last year.
