Suspected rebel fighters on Wednesday night attacked Kenyan Administration Police camp near the border, killing at least seven people and taking hostage several others.

Bardera (Sunatimes) Al-Shabaab has on Friday displayed two Kenyan nationals who they alleged were part of several Kenyans they kidnapped during Thursday attack along the Kenyan-Somali border, reports say.

Addressing curious-on-lookers gathered in an open filed where the Kenyan captives were paraded, the area rebel leader, Abass Abdullahi said a Special Unit of their fighters raided a Kenyan Administration Police camp in Gerille, Wajir District and took hostage Kenyan officials without any resistance.

He boasted that they are able to conduct similar raid inside Kenya and threatened to do so whenever they see it as necessary.

Reports say the rebel group was also holding a Somali-Kenyan man who was also kidnapped from Kenyan side of the border. The captives were reportedly taken to Baidoa town after their display.

Suspected rebel fighters on Wednesday night attacked Kenyan Administration Police camp near the border, killing at least seven people and taking hostage several others.

Police said local district registrar of persons, District Officer, Chief and intelligence officers were missing and are yet to be traced after the incident.

Locals have reportedly said that the attack caught the officers at the Gerile AP camp in Wajir South by surprise as they had retreated to their tents when it happened.

The officers had been supervising a registration exercise in the area for the better part of the day before they were attacked.

Witnesses said gunmen who crossed from Somalia numbering about 40 drove in five vehicles surrounded the camp before they attacked it with bombs and bullets, according to The Standard.

Al-Shabaab immediately claimed responsibility of the attack.

There have been several attacks on police camps in the three months since Nairobi sent troops into Somalia to fight the Al-Shabaab group.

Gunmen killed three Kenyan police and wounded two others in the latest of a string of attacks in the northeastern border region with war-torn Somalia, police said Thursday.

Hand grenades have been thrown into bars and a church, while homemade explosive devices have been set off, many targeting security forces.
