Bosaso (Sunatimes) An explosion on Tuesday in Somalia’s
commercial city of Bosaso killed three police officers, witnesses said.
A landmine exploded, killing the officers who were
trying to remove it from the area, according to eyewitnesses.
The victims of the blast were part of security officers
on Landmine removal mission who were sent to comb areas suspected of containing
explosives in the city.
Although no group has claimed responsibility of the
explosion, Puntland immediately blamed Al-Shabaab rebel group. There were no
comments from Al-Shabaab.
Police were seen patrolling and frisking people along
the major roads leading in an outside the seaside city. Others were seen
combing in for explosives that might have been buried in the area.
The explosion comes a day after Puntland police
thwarted similar attacks in the city after they unearthed three unexploded explosive
devices buried in some of the busiest streets in the city. Bomb experts later
detonated the explosives outside the town.
It also comes a time when locals and authorities in the
city are getting ready for the visiting Somali Prime Minister, Abdiweli Mohamed
Ali, who is now at Amaro town, 100 KM south of Bosaso town. Ali is expected to
arrive in Bosaso later today.
