Dubai (Sunatimes) The United Arab Emirates government said that it will double its effort in combating piracy along the Indian Ocean where Somali pirates have recently snatched boats and ships en route to East Africa.

The permanent representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, Ahmed Jarman announced that UAE will raise its efforts in combating piracy along the Indian ocean which saw the abduction of ships plying the Somali coast.

Ahmed revealed that the last few months pirates in the Indian Ocean heightened their efforts on business-bound ships in which he said that some are currently held hostage.

The UAE permanent representative called the UN and other developed nations to increase anti-piracy activities so that piracy will be brought to book.
