Nairobi (Sunatimes) Somalia’s immigration department on
Thursday revealed that Kenyan police have arrested an Indian and seized fake
Somali passports and identification cards.
Head of immigration Abdullahi Gafow Mohamud said an
Indian only named as Sanjeet was arrested after Kenya Revenue Authority
officials unearthed the fake documents shipped from United Arab Emirates.
He further revealed that the arrested man is the owner
a company that used to print Somalia’s e-passport, adding that the company’s
contract with the government has already expired.
The immigration boss said investigations have been
opened into the issue and threatened to take tough measures against those
involved in this scandal.
He stated that Sanjeet had on several times earlier
tried to print fake Somali passports and identification cards after the expiry
of his contract with the Somali government to print the e-passport.
The Wednesday incident prompted Gafow to travel to
Kenya, where he is expected to meet the Kenyan officials and follow up the
scandal involving the documents.
On Wednesday afternoon the Kenyan Revenue Authority
officials in the port of Mombasa seized a container full of Somali passports,
identification cards and fingerprint machines allegedly imported A company by
the name Machine Technology.
