Mogadishu (Sunatimes) Abdullahi Hassan Gedi nicknamed
"Janune" by his colleagues who is the co-founder and photographer of
the famous Somali website known as Daynile is suffering a stroke, which left
him partially, paralyzed and forced him unable to speak.
Mr Janune used to be a jack-of-all-trades for one of
Somalia's first independent websites called Daynile and was the first
professional photographer who came on the stage in order to make a living from
the photography.
Abdishakur Elmi Hassan, who was one of his colleagues
said " Janune was one of the first photographers who took the cameras at
time when being a photographer in Mogadishu was a matter of life and death, he
dared to take the camera and begun to tell the story at difficult time when
there were no photographers on the ground because of the insecurity and the
chaos in the capital Mogadishu, so, he deserves to be survived now".
In the face of these obstacles, Janune still believes in the power of
photography. When we visited him at the hospital today, he was only gesturing
and couldn't afford to speak. Janune was also a writer and was famous in
Mogadishu for his dramatic pictures.
Like most local journalists
working in Mogadishu, Janune had multiple encounters .first of all he was the
breadwinner of 7 children which only waits the money Janune makes from the
photography.
His wife Mulki Yusuf
said," since yesterday my children consumed no food due to lack of money
and the children this morning were beginning to cry for milk"
Somali Journalists are asking
the international community to help provide medical assistance to Janune, whose
leg and hand paralyzed by the stroke.
Janune received some medical
attention for hours now but the hospital was not able to heal his mind and leg
due to poor health care.
Abdishakur said “I am very
concerned about the condition of Janune because there are outstanding hospital
bills which he can't afford to pay and doctors are saying he needs further
medical treatment in the overseas since there are less qualified doctors in the
country because of the insecurity and the violence
