New york (Sunatimes) Somali Prime Minister, Dr. Abdiweli Mohamed AliThe Somali Prime Minister Dr Abdiweli Mohamed Ali appealed to the United Nations for the deployment of more peacekeeping forces in Somalia. The PM said the troops will take part in the stabilization of the country and help his beleaguered government fight Islamist militants.

Dr Abdiweli who was addressing the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York said his country urgently needs more peacekeeping troops to secure Mogadishu, particularly the areas vacated by Al-shabab in the city.

In his speech at the UN Security Council meeting, the prime minister elaborated on the security situation of Mogadishu where he said Special Forces were formed. The Special Forces have been destined to monitor the security of the city and also for keeping an eye on the safe delivery of the humanitarian aid.

The United Nations envoy to Somalia along with other African heads called upon the UN Security Council to send more peacekeeping forces to Somalia to take part in the peacekeeping operations.

The council will also discuss on the deliberations and outcome of consultative meeting that was recently held in Mogadishu.

The Somali government is asking for more military resources at a time when the country is hit by worst drought experienced in 60 years.
