Galkao (Sunatimes) Galmudug president Mohamed Ahmed Alin has urged aid agencies to swiftly provide humanitarian aid to drought and famine displaced people from southern Somalia reaching refugee camps in Galkayo town.
After visiting IDP camps hosting large number of drought and famine stricken people in and around Galkayo town, the president held a press conference and said the drought situation in the region is appalling.
He said hundreds of starving people from drought and famine-hit region in southern Somalia are reaching the camps daily in search of humanitarian aid.
He added that he saw severely malnourished children in the camps, saying that they need immediate humanitarian assistance.
The regional president revealed that his administration has no capacity to deal with the influx of refugees into the area.
