Nairobi
(Sunatimes) African Union special representative to Somalia, Jerry Rowlings,
has urged the International Community to provide humanitarian assistance to
Somalia people facing severe starvation in the horn of African nation.
The
former Ghanaian president said the international community ought to aid the
needy Somali population in the country and come up with preventive measures to
make sure such a drought and famine related crisis will not reoccur in the near
future.
Rowlings
requested water drilling initiatives for the drought and famine victims in
Somalia, suggesting the revival of learning institutions in the war-torn
country to make sure that uneducated youths are not lured into the deadly war
in the country.
The
AU special representative to Somalia urged other African nations to immediately
respond to the crisis in Somalia and double their efforts to have a lasting
solution to Somalia’s political impasse that has ravaged the horn of African
country since early 90s.
He,
however, called on rebels in Somalia to unconditionally allow humanitarian aid
to reach the needy people in the drought-hit Somalia.
