Najib Balala and Amina Abdalla ‘links to Al Shabaab

Denial is a natural reaction to the guilty, and when one sees PRMC issuing press statement accusing the UN of fabricating evidence you know that somewhere members of PRMC are in fear of the real truth to come out.

Denial is a natural reaction to the guilty, and when one sees PRMC issuing press statement accusing the UN of fabricating evidence you know that somewhere members of PRMC are in fear of the real truth to come out.

Nairobi (Sunatimes) The recent UN report on Somalia and Eritrea marks a departure from the UN’s usual reports that are full of inaccuracies and no evidence to back up its over exaggerated claims. However, this report is very different; it’s the longest with 417 pages and most in depth of its kind since the UN began to monitor Somalia. A quick look at the evidence produced by the UN contained in the annexes of the report and one gets the feeling that the UN now wants to taken seriously.

But it seems that some members of the political class in Kenya are both in shock and in a state of denial of their inferred indirect links to Al Shabaab.  Both Minister Balala and Nominated MP Amina Abdallah were mentioned in the report.  The UN under legal guidance did not accuse the two politicians of [directly] funding Al Shabaab but highlighted that both politicians had donated funds to the Pumwani Riyadha Mosque Committee (PRMC), which were embezzled one assumes by Ahmad Iman Ali for MYC activities in Somalia.

Where the Kenyan people should be concerned is that why have the two politicians chosen to engage in diversionary tactics by accusing the UN of trying to tarnish their ‘good names’?  Why is it that Minister Balala has not given a detailed and honest account of his relationship with PRMC?  Yes, the UN only mentioned one instance where the Minister visited Majengo and PRMC where he publicly gave funds to PRMC that eventually ended up with MYC and its ‘Amiir’ Ahmad Iman Ali but doesn’t he feel he needs to come clean if there are other donations made to the PRMC?  When the Minister claims that he had no idea of Ahmad Iman Ali or MYC does that mean he has never received intelligence briefings on Majengo and the activities of MYC?  Or why was his security at fundraising coordinated by MYC the Al Shabaab affiliate?  These are all questions Minister Balala should address or “step aside” as they say in Kenya political circles.

When it comes to the MP Amina Abdallah the issue becomes trickier for the MP to claim she is being setting up by the UN.  For anyone living in or from Majengo the activities of PRMC and MYC are no secret.  It’s a fact that Ahmad Iman Ali the ‘Amiir’ of MYC is still the Secretary of the Mosque Committee.  The MP knew this but still went along to donate money to the Mosque.  On several occasions Amina Abdallah had courted Ahmad Iman Ali and his MYC members to campaign for her as have many Muslim MPs.  The plain truth here seems that the MP sought to use Ahmad Iman Ali and MYC while in return Ahmad Iman saw a financial opportunity to exploit the MP.

Denial is a natural reaction to the guilty, and when one sees PRMC issuing press statement accusing the UN of fabricating evidence you know that somewhere members of PRMC are in fear of the real truth to come out.  Unconfirmed reports indicate that the UN investigator lived in Majengo under disguise and videoed recorded meetings and phone calls of both MYC and PRMC members. Take for example in May 2011, the current Treasurer of PRMC a Dr Abdallah Iddi had his mobile phone tapped by the UN when he was talking to MYC members in Somalia.  The audio recording clearly highlights the PRMC willingness to fund Al Shabaab.  In the audio tape the PRMC Treasurer agrees to send $1000 to Al Shabaab – no doubt from PRMC funding.  What the press statements of PRMC also failed to mention is that many of the members of the PRMC have brothers and sons fighting for Al Shabaab in Somalia, so using the Mosque funds to keep Al Shabaab afloat is more of a moral obligation to them.  The government of Kenya must now investigate thoroughly all the members of PRMC and what the two politicians knew of MYC and PRMC. One thing is for sure now that MYC is not in denial enough to dissociate themselves from the two politicians and the PRMC that funds its Al Shabaab activities
