AMISOM has donated three vehicles on behalf of the African Union to the Transitional Federal Government as part of its ongoing mission to stabilise Somalia.
In a ceremony at Mogadishu Airport this morning, AMISOM Force Commander, Major General Nathan Mugisha, handed over two Land Rovers, one Toyota Pick-up and three Yamaha motorcycles to TFG Prime Minister, Dr Abdiweli Mohamed Ali.
The vehicles will be used by Somalia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry and Range to assist with disease control and food security programmes.
Maj Gen Mugisha said: “We have the honour to hand over these vehicles which were donated by the African Union to the Transitional Federal Government...we hope this humble contribution will help you reach out to farmers and provide extension services at this critical time.”
The support is in line with AMISOM mandate that seeks to enhance the capacity of TFG to deliver services to its people. The support also comes at a time when Somalia is badly hit by severe drought and famine. The Civil Military Cooperation Officer, LtCol Katwekyeire Kamurari, said: “This will go a long way in helping the Ministry of Agriculture to reach out to farmers at this critical time.”
After the handover ceremony, Dr Ali visited the AMISOM Field Hospital to meet Somali patients being treated by AMISOM doctors.
