Beledweyne(Sunatimes) The Al-Shabaab militia in Beledweyne
town has arrested at least ten local traders for their alleged shipment of
newly printed Somali currency into the area. The arrested traders, most of who runs open air foreign exchange
Bureaus have been arrested in a two day operation aimed at cracking down on
those in possession of the newly printed notes in the area. The militia vowed to continue their operation, threatening that
they will take decisive measures against those found in possession of the new
Somali currency, which they consider it as counterfeit. It is not yet known why the militia has slapped a ban on the use
of new Somali currency even after it has been in use in the area for a couple
of months. Locals expressed their dissatisfaction with the Al-Shabaab’s ban
on the newly printed notes, saying the notes are in use in the entire
country. |
