Garowe (Sunatimes) A launch on ceremony for vaccination campaign
for children under five years of age has been held in puntland’s Ministry of
health centre in Garowe.
The ceremony which was attended by Puntland authorities, members
of the civil society and representatives from the world health organisation and
the United Nations children’s fund was aimed at kicking off a campaign to
vaccinate children under five years of age in Puntland from measles,
tuberculosis, polio and other crippling diseases.
Speaking at the opening of the launch on ceremony, Puntland’s vice
president Abdisamad Ali Shire, said there has been cheap propagandas spreading
all over the area about the vaccination campaign, saying that such propagandas
are aimed at derailing their effort to vaccinate children under five years of
age against killer but preventable diseases.
He urged the campaign facilitators and parents to take advantage
of this opportunity and get their children vaccinated against killer diseases
to limit child death in the area.
Also speaking at the same venue Puntland’s ministry of health
official Dr. Abdinasir Uke, explained the importance of child vaccination and
the possible repercussions of neglecting the vaccination for children under
five years of age.
Lastly Puntlan’s assistance Minister for health Dr. Mohamed Hirsi
Du’ale, said his ministry has achieved tangible achievements in containing
diseases like measles with over eight thousand children under the age of five
years expected to get vaccinated in Puntland State of Somalia.
