Mogadishu (Sunatimes) United Nations’ representative for
humanitarian affairs to Somalia, Mark Bowden has on Tuesday arrived in
Mogadishu to assess the drought situation in Somalia and ways forward in
helping drought-stricken Somalis.
Mark Bowden and other dignitaries from the UN met Somalia’s newly
formed national drought committee led by acting defense minister,
Abdihakim Haji Mohamud Fiqi to discuss how to help the largely displaced
population facing very desperate circumstances inside Mogadishu and other parts
of Somalia.
Bowden called for the international community to cooperate in
determining how help the looming humanitarian crisis in Somalia.
The UN trip to Somalia comes as the Somali government relocates
more than 4,000 families who had been badly affected by devastating drought and
forced to flee to Mogadishu to get helped.
