State officials have confirmed that a Somali terror suspect detained in the US
has close ties with Yemen’s Al-Qaeda leader, Anwar Al-awlaki.
Ahmed Abdikadir Warsame,
who was on Thursday charged with terrorism in the United State, is said to have
given the US intelligence Agencies credible information concerning the links
between Somalia’s Al-Shabaab militants and Al-Qaeda network.
A US official who
refused to be quoted told AFP news agency, that the suspect is a top leader of
Al-Shabaab militant group and has established contacts between Al-Shabaab and
Al-Qaeda operatives in Yemen.
Ahmed Abdikadir Warsame,
is facing nine counts of charges, including his role as a contact man between
the two international terror Groups.
Meanwhile the US
government has distanced it self from allegations that it has secretly
interrogated the suspect on a warship.
