Mogadishu
(Sunatimes) The British Office for Somalia welcomes the appointment on 23 June
of Dr. Abdiweli Mohamed Ali, Prime Minister of the Transitional Federal
Government of Somalia. The UK looks forward to a swift appointment and approval
of a new cabinet that can start to deliver the transitional tasks and agree a
way forward to end the transition. Progress on reconciliation and outreach,
reform of key institutions and finalising the draft constitution is now
absolutely crucial. Dr Abdiweli has the UK Government’s full support in this
endeavour.
Speaking today, Matt Baugh, UK Senior
Representative for Somalia said:
“I am pleased that a new Prime Minister has been
appointed. Dr Abdiweli has the UK’s full support in the difficult job that lies
ahead. But we need to see much more progress on reform and the transitional
tasks. It is also important that the Kampala Accord is fully implemented. As
our Ministers have made clear, a failure to deliver on these key requirements
could jeopardise UK and international support for the TFIs.”
