Mogadishu (Sunatimes) The Prime Minister of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has announced his resignation Sunday during a press conference in Mogadishu.
“Considering the interest of the Somali people and the current political situation in Somalia, I have decided to leave my office,” Prime Minister Farmajo told reporters in Mogadishu.
“I would like to thank my cabinet who have done a lot to help improve security and standards of governance in Somalia.” He added.
He commended the Somali people for showing support to his government.
The resignation of Farmajo comes ten days after the Kampala Accord which states the Premier to step down in thirty days and the extension of the terms of both the presidency and the parliament.
President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed accepted the resignation of Mohamed Abdullahi whom he congratulated for his decision and the tasks he accomplished during the six months he was the premier.
Sheikh Sharif is expected to appoint a new premier in the coming two weeks.
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Abdiwali Mohamed Ali was named as acting Prime Minister.
