Mogadishu (Sunatimes) We have received
information from well-informed security source in Mogadishu that the
suspected Al-Qaida leader in East Africa who was shot dead recently by
Somali soldiers at military checkpoint in Mogadishu was preparing to leave
Somalia to neighboring Kenya.
Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, who is allegedly Al Qaeda’s top leader in East
Africa and the mastermind of the American Embassy bombings in Kenya and
Tanzania was dressed in the traditional Somali outfit and was
accompanied by Kenyan national named “Musa Hussein –alias Abdullahi
Dhere” who’s believed to be an important member of Al-Qaida’s active
cells in East Africa.
The Kenyan National who was born in “Wajir” city of North Eastern Kenya
is also member of Al-Shabaab’s Amniyaat brigade. Amniyaat brigade is the
intelligence wing of Al-shabaab, notorious for their dirty information
gathering techniques and ruthless assassinations.
According to the security source, Fazul and his Kenyan assistant drove
in a black Toyota surf(pictured),which is a four wheel drive vehicle
commonly used by senior Al-Shabaab leaders.
Fazul and his colleague cautiously approached “EX-Control Afgoye”
checkpoint, which is crucial security checkpoint manned by TFG soldiers
on the strategic road that links Mogadishu to the neighboring “Lower
Shabelle” region.
“Apparently there were pre-arrangements between some corrupt TFG
soldiers who used to control this particular security checkpoint and
Al-Shabaab to allow this particular vehicle to pass unchecked in
exchange for considerable sums of money, what Al-Shabaab didn’t knew is
that ,TFG has adopted recently major security changes and deployed
better trained soldiers at all crucial security checkpoints in and
around government controlled areas of Mogadishu, this particular
checkpoint got all its security guards changed only few hours prior to
the incident” says the security source.
“Fazul and his one legged Kenyan assistant who was on driver’s seat
very cautiously approached the checkpoint, apparently waiting for the
signal, two heavily armed TFG soldiers stepped gingerly from their
nearby barracks towards them asking them to step out of the vehicle, the
two terrorists quickly realized that the situation is not going
according to plan, and had tried to resist, the man on diver’s seat
pulled out a pistol and fired couple of shots before being shot by TFG
security officers, Fazul had tried to abandon the vehicle and escape
when he received stream of bullets in his chest, Fazul and his assistant
died on spot”. Added the security source
The well-informed Somali security source went on saying that, initially
the Somali security agencies though it was foiled suicide bombing
mission, but after carefully examining the vehicle and its two dangerous
passengers ,there were clear indications that, the passengers might be of
significant role within Al-Shabaab, considering the amount of money and
other sophisticated equipment and tools that was confiscated.
Mobile phones, various documents including a south African passport,
two laptops, two expensive suits, and 40,000$ in cash were recovered.
[We] exhumed his body and took his pictures and DNA," Somali General
Abdikarim Yusuf Dhagabadan told the Associated Press
“If everything went according to their plan, Fazul and his Kenyan
assistant would’ve been in Kenya by now as it’s the preferred country by
organized crime networks, human trafficking rings, drug trafficking
syndicates, radical Islamists and international terrorist networks due
to the high level of corruption, incompetency and probably high level
conspiracy and collaboration from top Kenyan government officials”. Said
the security source
“We believe that Fazul and his Kenyan assistant were heading for a safe
house inside Somali government controlled area of Mogadishu, where he
suppose to change his Somali traditional outfit into western style, and
then apparently pose as South African security contractor or business
man before boarding a private Kenyan registered plane heading to
Nairobi”. Said the Somali security source with strong voice.
On 22nd April 2009, a key notorious Somali radical Islamist “Sheikh
Hassan Dahir Aweys”, a frequent feature on the US terror watch-list used
a Nairobi-based airline Capital Airlines to fly to Mogadishu from
Eritrea under the supervision of Kenyan intelligence officers.
Furthermore, on 2nd August 2008, Fazul him self allegedly narrowly
escaped capture in Kenya according to Kenyan newspapers reports.
More Importantly, Fazul’s Assistant who has been killed with him is a
Kenyan national born in North Eastern Kenya, who has been arrested
numerous times by the American trained Kenyan Anti terrorism force. Musa
Hussein also known among Al-Shabaab and Al-Qaida members as “Abdullahi
Dhere”.
Mr.Abdullahi Dhere, lost his leg while fighting alongside the Islamic
courts union (ICU) in early 2006, he then went back to Kenya where he
extensively worked on recruitment and fundraising efforts for
Al-Shabaab. He has been arrested numerous times by Kenyan Anti terrorism
force and released after consirable amount of money was payed to secure
his release by his associates.
Mr.Ali Dheere was until his demise Al-Shabaab’s liaison officer with
Sheikh Hassaan – a notorious radical Islamist based in Nairobi who
regularly provides fatwas and religious backing for Al-Shabaab militia
in Somalia. Sheikh Hassaan radicalized thousands of Kenyan youths from
North Eastern Province of Kenya who undergone terrorism training in
Somalia and could pose a grave danger not only to the east African
region but also globally due to the intensity and sophistication of
terrorism training they’ve received by Al-Qaida and Al-Shabaab
operatives in Somalia.
What is really worth asking, though ,is what was behind fazul’s
intention to travel to Kenya, and who are his high level backers in
Kenya?!! And more importantly why the Kenyan government hasn’t done
anything to halt the flow of foreign jihadists into Somalia?
