Mogadishu (Sunatimes) The Somali Fishing and Sea Resources Minister Mohamed Moallim said his ministry has taken steps forward in the preparation of documents pertaining to the preservation of the Somali Exclusive Economic Zone.

The minister who addressed the cabinet said that the territorial waters of Somalia extend upto 370 kilometers which is the exclusive economic zone in line with the United Nations Convention on Law of sea. This gives the Somali government to fully exploit the resources within this limit which doesn’t allow other countries to trespass and use these resources.

The minister said the document contains rules of preserving and protecting the Somali waters from illegal fishing and dumping of toxic chemical wastes. The Somali cabinet ministers endorsed the measures by the ministry of fisheries in protecting the sea of Somalia.
