Mogadishu (Sunatimes) The Prime Minister of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi ‘Farmajo’ has met with UN representative for humanitarian affairs, Mark Bowden in Mogadishu, where they discussed about the humanitarian situation of the country.
Dr. Abdiwali Mohamed Ali, Deputy PM, and minister of planning and International co-operation of the TFG, has addressed the media after the meeting, and said they discussed with the UN envoy on how to help Somali people who are in need of emergent humanitarian assistance.
Mark Bowden said the UN is concerned about the worsening humanitarian situation and the drought in the country, asserting that his office will continue to reach out to the drought-hit Somalis.
In the latest statistics by the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organization ‘FAO’, it revealed that more than two and half million Somalis lives are at stake, which if not immediately assisted can quadruple the situation.
Though the Gu’ seasonal rains have begun in some parts of the country, there are some regions which have not yet received any rainfall for more than two years increasing the number of people who are in need of relief supply. Previously, over 1.2 million people who were displaced by violence, were mainly depending on relief.
